Ups and Downs in Lenzerheide
What a tight result at the last World Cup weekend! Aaron missed the win of the 5th race this season in Lenzerheide by a margin. He was only 0.096 min behind the winner Danny Hart. Team mate Angel Suarez crashed in the finals due to a flat tire and couldn’t finish the race.
The weekend in Lenzerheide promised to be one of those amazing race weekends: brilliant weather, a technically demanding course and a great atmosphere amongst the YT Mob. Aaron and Angel had spent the weekend before in Germany for the YT Session in Osternohe bikepark. The guys did a few relaxed runs with the fans, signed quite a few autographs and enjoyed their time with us. At the beginning of the week it was back to business and the team continued with their journey to Switzerland.
While the training went well for the YT Mob – Aaron had the fastest time – he shocked us by a harsh crash during Qualifying. He managed to react fast, got back on his bike easily and finished the Quali in 19th position. Angel qualified 45th for the race but suffered a slow leak puncture during his race run and crashed heavily. Fortunately, he was not hurt.
Aaron started relatively early on Sunday: after his run with a bombastic time of 3:05.806 min eighteen other riders had to roll through the start gate. Up to the very last starter, Aaron kept the lead, so the tension became almost unbearable. When Danny Hart crossed the finish line, it was clear that Danny had done enough to claim his first ever World Cup win by a tight margin of only 0.096. Congrats to his first ever World Cup win.
Aaron is more than satisfied with his result, as he continues to lead the World Cup with 976 points: "We had some ups and downs but I’m stoked to pull through with a great result and leave this wild track healthy! Really enjoying my time on the bike now and looking forward to one of my favourite races of the year in Mont-Sainte-Anne next month!”
Angel and Aaron will compete in their national championships this weekend. We wish you good luck and great success. Have #GoodTimes and come back safely!
